Manfred Hamm. Tempus Fugit
9 March to 14 April 2018 ⟶ Corneliusstraße
In the exhibition "Tempus Fugit", Manfred Hamm shows photographs taken between 1979 and 2006 during his extensive travels to numerous countries in Europe and the USA to document the ruins of the industrial age. He photographed disused production and extraction sites, decommissioned power stations, empty machine shops and dilapidated factory buildings from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, but also bunkers and command posts from the Second World War on the Atlantic or the abandoned sites of American space programmes. The resulting series of black-and-white photographs impressively demonstrates that at the end of the industrial age, its temples were already in ruins or at least had lost their purpose. The deep irritation that Hamm's images of a vanished culture create in the viewer is, for him, striking evidence in this context of the rapidly accelerating change in the times in which we live.
